This house was situated next door to the now abandoned RAF Upwood base. It was once the farmhouse for the farm and land subsequently acquired by the MOD to build RAF Upwood. It was used to house two families of RAF personnel situated at the base. The house was absolutely stunning in itself. It was a rock solid house despite vandals trying their best to destroy it.
It had a grand entrance with the original decorative tiles on the floor underneath a lot of rubbish! Unfortnately two huge trees blocked the entrance so I was unable to get a shot of the building at the front. I suspect these trees were the cause of the rot to the gorgeous bay windows.
Sadly the flooring, ceilings and woodwork were destroyed through being exposed to the elements. It had a large outbuilding behind the house, a garage, a basement and store rooms, all sitting in a large garden. The usual MOD fencing of concrete angled posts, chainlink fencing and barbed wire lined the property's perimiter.
The house was roomy inside and you couldn't help but think that, given some love and attention (and a lot of money!), it could've been restored to its former glory. Unfortunately the upper floors were fairly treacherous because the floors were rotten in some of the rooms, but we were careful.
It reminded my brother and I of the Victorian house where we grew up in Hunstanton, tall ceilings, fireplaces in every room, big skirting boards, internal doors with high windows, sash windows in large bays. Shame it will be built on with flimsy, modern housing. They don't make them like they used to.
My explore of this beautiful house took place in May 2020. It was sadly demolished the following September and is now no longer there.
